This skills programme is made up of 3 compulsory modules. The course duration is 5 days and focuses on 3 areas, a knowledge-based module, a Practical Skill module and Workplace Module. The Skills Programme is an alternative to ETDP Unit Standards.

Course Overview

The purpose of the Skills Programme is to prepare a learner to function as a Learning and Development Facilitator.

A Learning and Development Facilitator plans, selects and adapts learning resources required for the delivery of learning interventions in an occupational context. A Learning Support Facilitator applies advanced learning skills and techniques, using relevant tools and methods to help learners study and improve their performance in different subjects/learning areas.

Course Includes:

  • 5 Days: Theory and In-Class Assessments
    • 08:00 am – 16:00 pm (x3 15-minute breaks included)
  • Final Examination to be held from 09:00 am – 12 am the following day
  • Classes are subject to a maximum of 12 – 15 learners per facilitator

A qualified learner will be able to:

  • Plan resources and logistics to ensure efficient and effective learning.
  • Prepare for facilitation in alignment with adult learning principles and techniques.
  • Identify and address barriers to learning during the learning intervention.
  • Recognize past experience and prior learning in the facilitation process.
  • Provide guidance and support to help learners define outcomes, clarify issues, manage expectations, and explore learning opportunities.
  • Adapt facilitation plans and processes to meet contextual and learner dynamics.
  • Facilitate active learning using appropriate methodologies suited to different contexts and learning styles.
  • Conduct facilitation in an organized manner, ensuring both physical and psychosocial safety for learners.
  • Continuously assess learner progress and the effectiveness of the intervention, providing timely feedback.
  • Manage learner group dynamics according to contextual requirements.
  • Reflect on stakeholder feedback to drive continuous personal and professional development.
  • Demonstrate ethical and professional practice by adhering to organizational procedures.

  • The statutory and regulatory framework that governs skills development funding
  • National occupational skills development structures, policies and priorities
