E-Learning Apply Fire Fighting Techniques Level 1– Refresher Training

This course is E-Learning Accredited with the Transport Education Training Authority and covers unit standard "252250" NQF level 1, 3 Credits

All training programs are Outcome Based and are assessed according to various Unit Standards and Outcomes.

Assessment criteria consists of a Formative Assessment (Knowledge Check), In-Class Assessments (Modules) and Summative Assessment (Final Assessment)

Duration: Delegates are given 48 hours to complete the training

Course Overview

Training is an essential part of proactive Fire Safety Management on every premises and in all organisations. This training is essential in order to protect employees, property and the environment.

There is very little practical purpose to providing Fire Extinguishers if no one on the premises can use them or any other fire equipment if they are not trained to use them.

Lack or no training in this regard could have devastating consequences for employees and the work environment.

At the end of the training employees will be able to identify the different types of fires, explain and practice fire prevention and perform basic fire fighting procedures.

  • Fire Elements – Heat, Fuel and Oxygen
  • How Fire Works – Heating and Ignition
  • How Fire Spreads – Radiation, Convection, Conduction and Direct Burning
  • Classes of fires, Extinguishing Methods and Agents
  • Identify the type of fire and extinguishing agent
  • Ensure that extinguisher used is in a serviceable condition
  • Operating Procedure – PASS Method
    • Pull (Break seal and pull pin)
    • Aim (Base of fire)
    • Squeeze (Controlled action)
    • Sweep (Controlled action)
  • Keep eye on exit while extinguishing the fire
  • Hose Reels, Fire Buckets and Fire Blankets
  • Portable Fire Extinguisher
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Hazards (Safety for all)
  • Fire Hazards – Main causes of fires
  • Fire Prevention and Fire Safety
  • Occupational Health and Safety Act – Duty to Act
  • Fire Fighting in the Workplace
  • Emergency Plans and Fire Alarms
  • Evacuation Procedures

Learning Outcomes – Practical Evaluation

  • No Practical Evaluation will take place and is not necessary for Refresher Training conducted on the E-Learning Platform

Competency Scores

  • All learners are to achieve 80% and above for In-Class Assessments (Modules) and Summative Assessment (Final Assessment)
  • Learners are given 3 chances to complete all In-Class Assessments (Modules) and the Summative Assessment (Final Assessment)
